This month I had the privilege of celebrating my 20th year with RE/MAX Professionals of Newport. Wow, 20 years. I am a very different person today then I was in April 2001. I’ve grown up. I learned how to be a professional. I got married and we had two wonderful kids. I’ve gone through endless house plants, seven gold fish and three dogs. It has been quite a journey.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Joe Rose & Bruce Allen with a big shout out to Cathy Furtado and the late Carole Owens. I am not an easy person to deal with, never have been. They have all bent over backwards to make me happy and help me grow into the person I am today. Carole was in many ways like a second Mom to me. The one story that stands out in my mind was how she would withhold 20% of my commission (because I was not mature enough to do so) and deposit into a separate account in my name but that I didn’t have access to. Then when IRS payments were due, they would be paid from this account allowing me not get in debt with uncle Sam. She was a wonderful person.
I have a father and he is wonderful, supportive, and always there for me but he lives 3000 miles away. I have found myself leaning on Bruce & Joe quite a lot over the years. Through the highs and the lows, they have been there for me many times. I feel like I almost have a father/son type relationship with both of them and I consider them great friends. The trust, respect and loyalty that exists between us is something I think is very rare and I really appreciate it.
I got licensed in 1997 and started doing rentals with Shelley Mathes and Diane Mc Lead at America’s Realty, and I encourage new agents to look at rentals as the best way to start a career in this business. A few years later, I met with Joe Rose and was very impressed with the operations in his office and decided to make the move to RE/MAX. It’s the best decision I ever made.
I’ll admit, in the beginning I was hesitant buy into the RE/MAX culture, but over the years I have really come to realize the value of all the support being a RE/MAX agent has to offer: The networking, agent to agent referrals, online education at RE/MAX U, and the countless mastermind sessions I’ve been a part of, both in person and via Zoom, are truly invaluable. There is so much more to this brand than just name recognition.
I love RE/MAX and love the brand. They have been with me and helped me grow from just myself and one assistant in 2001, to a team with nine agents plus an in house marketing team that is continuing to grow. RE/MAX has encouraged this growth and expansion every step of the way. I can’t wait to see what the next 20 years has in store for RE/MAX, myself and the Fitzpatrick Team. Cheers to 20 more!
