Take a lantern-lit tour of the streets of Newport or sing hymns inside the Colony House before the proclamation from the Mayor to declare the official opening of Christmas in Newport, followed immediately by the tree-lighting ceremony.
Thursday, December 5th 4-7pm Join us for a fun evening of cocktails and shopping, featuring local boutiques and designers. Shop jewelry, clothing, home decor and more for everyone on your holiday shopping list! Saturday, December 7, 2019 8 p.m. – Midnight – Ochre Court – $225 per person Salve Regina, with the assistance of former Governor J. Joseph Garrahy, established the Governor’s Ball in 1977 to introduce outside support for the University and to raise scholarship funds for Salve Regina students. This act of goodwill has benefited countless students over the years. To date, the ball has raised more than $6 million toward academic assistance and has become a well-known holiday tradition in Rhode Island. Attended by local business leaders, alumni, parents and friends, the Governor’s Ball has a longstanding tradition of raising money for student scholarships.
